What is The Portland Foundation?

The Portland Foundation, founded in 1951, is the second oldest community foundation in Indiana.  It was created to enhance the quality of life for the people of Jay County, Indiana, now and for generations to come, by building community endowment, effecting significant impact through grantmaking and providing leadership on key community issues.

 

The Portland Foundation Receives $4.5 Million Gift

The Portland Foundation has received its largest-ever gift, $4.5 million from the estate of Elizabeth A. Starbuck. $3.6 million has been received, with the remaining $900,000 to be received by the end of the year.  Elizabeth Starbuck, a banker and philanthropist, passed away in March. She bequeathed 90% of the residuary of her estate to the Foundation, creating eight new endowments and adding to five existing endowments. 

Jay County 20/20 Vision

The Portland Foundation is hosting the the Implementation Committee of the Jay County 20/20 Vision project - a comprehensive strategic plan for the community. The plan was originally published in April 2010 and was updated in December 2012.To see the updated plan, click hereTo see the original plan, click here
