The Portland Foundation has approved grants totaling $84,945 for 9 Jay County organizations for the Winter Grant cycle of 2010.   Those grants are as follows:
 

Arts Place, Inc.  

$28,875 for operating support and $10,000 in support of the James & Marian Abromson Memorial Visual Arts Chair funded through the Abromson-Fleming Memorial Trust. 

Dunkirk Beautification Committee  

$1,450 to underwrite three concerts in the Webster Park Depot Concert Series. 

Jay Community Center  

$15,750 for operating support. 

Jay Community Center  

$2,000 for purchase of equipment for senior citizen fitness classes. $1,404 comes from unrestricted funds, $20 from the Paul and Velma Beard Trust, $365 from the Ralph & Bertha Green-Tony & Helen Saffer Fund for the Elderly, $118 from the Cincinnatus League Endowment, and $93 from the Joseph F. Vormohr Memorial Fund, all of which were established to benefit elderly citizens of Jay County. 

Jay County 4th of July Committee  

$4,500 for operational support of the 4th of July celebration activities.  

Jay County Historical Society

$2,000 for display cases. $1,491 comes from the Clyde Geeting Memorial Trust, which provides funding for historical facilities, and $509 from unrestricted funds.  

Jay County Special Olympics  

$2,250 for entry fees for Jay County Special Olympians. Of this, $799 comes from the Robert M. & Frances Gillespie Educational Trtust and $84 from the Jean Leslie Jaqua Trust. Both funds were established to benefit handicapped citizens of our community. The remaining $1,367 comes from unrestricted funds.  

John Jay Center For Learning  

$15,750 for operating support.  

Museum of the Soldier  

$1,370 for a computer system.  

Salvation Army - Jay County Unit  

$1,000 to fund basic needs assistance.   
 

The grant application deadline for the next Winter Cycle is January,  2011.
