The Board of Trustees of The Portland Foundation has approved scholarships totaling $104,255 forFifty-Seven Jay County residents for the summer 2017 scholarship cycle. 

 

The Janet B. Arnold Memorial Scholarship is awarded annually to a Jay County High School graduate who is a college junior or senior and is majoring in elementary education. Abby Muhlenkamp will receive a one-time award of $400 and Shalee Myron will receive $270.

The Altrusa Club of Portland Scholarship is awarded annually to a Jay County resident who is a non-traditional student.  Kari May will receive $375.

The Dr. Ara C. and Gay B. Badders Medical Scholarship is awarded through the Dr. Ara C. and Gay B. Badders Scholarship Fund.  Dr. Badders was a physician in Jay County for many years. This scholarship is awarded annually to a Jay County High School graduate who is majoring in a doctoral medical program.  Randy Fortkamp, Kortney Garringer, Randa Gillespie, Liza Haggenjos, LeAnn Horn, and Jacob Schlosser will receive $2,000 each.

The Marseal T. Deweerd, Edith T. Horn, and Virgie M. Brady Memorial Scholarship is awarded annually to Jay County residents who are entering their junior or senior year of college.  Lindsey Green will receive $1,000.

The Alwyn Carder Scholarship is awarded annually to a Jay County resident who is a college junior or senior and is majoring in architecture, history, or education.  Kaitlin Hemmelgarn, Heather Lugar, Hope Lugar, Abby Muhlenkamp, Alexis Myers, and Sarah Newton will receive $2,000 each.

The East Central Opportunities Scholarship is awarded annually to Jay County residents who are enrolled in higher education classes at the John Jay Center for Learning. Karissa Myers will receive $485.

The Joyce S. Horn Scholarship is awarded annually to Jay County High School graduates who are enrolled in their junior or senior year in college and majoring in elementary education. First preference is given to students who attended Bloomfield Elementary School and who are attending Ball State University. Abby Muhlenkamp will recieve $900.

The John Jay Center for Learning Scholarship is awarded annually to a Jay County resident who is pursuing a degree through the John Jay Center.  Karissa Myers will receive $225.

The Charles & Ruth Joos Scholarship is awarded annually to a Jay County resident who is entering either their sophomore, junior or senior year of college with preference given to sophomores. Travis Barton, Matthew Blackford, Christina Brown, Kellie Fortkamp, Alyssa Hartley, Malarie Houck, Levi Hummel, Lillian McClung, Karissa Myers, Robert Myers, Abigail Reier, Sydney Robbins, Menausha VanSkyock, and Megan Wellman will each receive $500.

The Dr. Glade and Joyce McAfee Memorial Scholarship is awarded annually to Jay County residents who are enrolled in either a Doctoral Program in Optometry or a Certified Nurse Anesthetist prgram. Randy Fortkamp will recieve $150.

The Elizabeth Starbuck II Scholarship is awarded annually to Jay County residents who are entering either their sophomore, junior or senior year of college. Ian Bentz, Sara Bollenbacher, Cheyanne Dull, Alicia Inman, Emily Jobe, Jessica Kerrigan, Gabrielle Mann, Katie Mast, Carli Ostrowski, Abigail Reier, Sydney Robbins, Bowen Runyon, Casey Shannon, Kathryn Smeltzer, Michelle Wellman, and Kaitlen Wood will each receive $1,000.

The Haynes Starbuck II Scholarship is awarded annually to Jay County residents who are entering either their sophomore, junior or senior year of college. Travis Barton, Matthew Blackford, Margaret Frye, Lindsey Green, Alyssa Hartley, Kaitlin Hemmelgarn, Emily Horn, Malarie Houck, Amber Huelskamp, Levi Hummel, Kristen Ireland, Bryttani Knight, Takoa Knight, Crystal Lee, Heather Lugar, Mallory Marshall, Lillian McClung, Chelsea Mock, Alexis Myers, Sarah Newton, Zane Shreve, and Megan Wellman will each receive $1,000.

The Orla and Ruth Tharp Education Scholarship is awarded annually to Jay County High School graduates, with first preference to students enrolled in a Masters program or a non medical Doctoral program. Second preference to students entering their sophomore, junior or senior year of college. Hannah Lugar, Shalee Myron, and Laura Strausburg-Smith will each receive $1,500. Tiffany Barton, Alisha Byers, Kellie Fortkamp, Hope Lugar, Robert Myers, and Menausha VanSkyock will each receive $1,000.

The Robert Quadrozzi Memorial Scholarship is awarded annually to Jay County residents who are enrolled in higher education classes at the John Jay Center for Learning. Karissa Myers will receive $385.  

The Martha Catharine Rockwell Music Scholarship is awarded annually to students who are graduates of Jay County High School, first preference is given to students who are majoring in a music-related degree and are studying at a Christian College. Levi Hummel will receive $1,000.

The Jerry R. Pierce Memorial Scholarship is awarded annually, with preference given to employees and descendents of employees of W & M Manufacturing, Pier-Mac Plastics, and Accelerated Curing. Benjamin and Jacob Pesek will each receive $3,035. Christine Brown, Ashlee Brumbaugh, Aaron Foster, Brock McFarland, Peggy Morgan, Mackinzi Peace, and Dean Wilson will each receive $2,035.

The Ruth Whipple Badders Scholarship is awarded annually to a Jay County resident who is a college junior or senior and is majoring in education. Bryttani Knight will receive $250.
