Congratulations to the 2009 Lilly Endowment Community Scholars

Two Jay County High School seniors have been named to receive full-tuition, four-year scholarships as The Portland Foundation's 2009 Lilly Endowment Community Scholars.

Adam Garringer is the son of Carmen Garringer and Mike Garringer and resides in Portland. He plans to attend Hanover University and study business. Adam is ranked #13 in his class with a 3.98 GPA. He is a member of the National Honor Society, basketball team (where he was varsity captain), football team, golf team, Jay Today Staff, student council, Youth for Christ, and is a senior mentor.

Mason Murphy is the son of Mitch and Anna Murphy and lives in rural Bryant. He plans to attend Notre Dame University and study biological sciences. Mason is ranked #1 in his class with a 4.03 GPA. He is a member of the National Honor Society and FFA where he received his state degree, was co-chair of the recruitment committee, and served on the soil judging team. He is also a member of Campus Life, German Club, Key Club, student council, wrestling team, junior leaders, and boy's state. He is a National Merit Scholar semi-finalist, a Bausch and Lomb Science Award recipient, and president of the student exchange club.
