2008 Summer Grants Awarded

The Portland Foundation has approved grants totaling $17,826 for seven Jay County projects for the summer grant cycle of 2008.

 

C.A.S.A. de Portland

$500 to pay for legal fees to obtain their 501 (c) 3 status. 
 

Jay County Chamber of Commerce

$2,000 to pay for two new computer systems for support staff. 
 

Jay County Development Corporation

$5,000 to pay for strategic planning retreat. 
 

2008 Teacher Creativity Mini-Grant Recipients

The Board of Trustees of The Portland Foundation has approved Teacher Creativity Mini-Grants totaling $4,250 for 17 projects for the first half of 2008.  

Teacher Creativity Mini-Grants are to help cover the costs ($250 or less) of learning experiences which teachers feel are important to their students, yet are outside the budget of their school.  This program is funded by the Virgil and Josephine Thomas Educational Fund, a component fund of The Portland Foundation, as a way to increase funding for educational projects and programs.

Winter 2008 Recipients

The Portland Foundation has approved grants of $164,473 from unrestricted funds and $8,453 from field of interest funds for 19 Jay County projects for the first half of 2008.   Those grants are as follows:

American Red Cross, Hoosier Heartland Chapter

$5,000 on a $1 for $1 matching grant towards the outfitting of an Emergency Response Vehicle for Jay County.  Of this, $314 comes from the 1776 Fund, which supports emergency response organizations.
