Introducing the 2008 Lilly Scholarship Recipients
Two Jay County High School students have been named to receive full, four-year scholarships as The Portland Foundation's 2008 Lilly Endowment Community Scholars.

Kaleb Hemmelgarn Lee Haggenjos
KALEB HEMMELGARN is the son of Doug and Karen Hemmelgarn and lives in rural Portland. He plans to attend Wabash College and pursue a major in Economics. He was ranked #10 in his class of 247 with a 3.968 GPA.
Kaleb was a member of the National Honor Society, FFA, a 10-year member of 4-H, Junior Fair Board, First Merchants Senior Advisory Board. He played football for four years and in 2007 was All Conference, All State, Academic All State, and Team Captain. He was Offensive Player of the Year in 2006 & 2007.
LEE HAGGENJOS is the son of Dr. Mark & Donna Haggenjos and resides in rural Portland. He plans to attend Notre Dame University in South Bend and study Biology and Music. Lee was ranked #1 in his class of 247 with a 4.095 GPA.
Lee was a member of the National Honor Society, Academic Team, Junior Classical League, Student Council and Thespian Society. He was section leader and first chair in the band where he was outstanding underclassman in 2006 and 2007. He was vice-president of the Senior class and participated in several plays. Lee has studied classical guitar at Arts Place for several years and plays in a rock band.
